Nevada Earthquake Safety Council Awards for Excellence were presented to Corey Farley, Reno Gazette-Journal columnist, for being a consistent advocate of earthquake awareness and preparedness, and to the Nevada Department of Transportation for the seismic retrofit of a major Nevada highway connection. The retrofit was performed on the Reno interchange of Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 395, which is located in one of the highest earthquake hazard areas in the State of Nevada. The awards were presented on May 19, 2000 at the Nevada Earthquake Safety Council meeting held at the University of Nevada, Reno.
