In 1995 Ralph Roberts made a donation to the Mackay School of Mines with the intent of starting a lecture series in economic geology that would complement the CREG program. Ralph Roberts, a pioneering geologist formerly with the U. S. Geological Survey , is credited with pointing out the potential for carbonate-hosted disseminated gold deposits in what is now the Carlin Trend. Lectures are typically given in late April or early May on UNR’s campus.
